Enjoy a delightful overview of Cannes on a leisurely walk past its historical landmarks and the most glamorous attractions that line the sun-drenched beach.
After walking from the pier, you will begin a wonderful introductory tour of Cannes, the quintessential resort on the French Riviera. While the guide will determine the exact route that day, you will undoubtedly see the most glamorous and historical aspects.
The distant past isn’t always top of mind in Cannes because the city was little more than a fishing village until wealthy Europeans “discovered” it in the mid-1800s. However, the remains of a fortified tower and a centuries-old Gothic church sit atop Le Suquet, the highest point in the Old Town. From here, the views are among the best in Cannes.
You might also pass the InterContinental Carlton Cannes, where Alfred Hitchcock filmed “To Catch a Thief,” the 1955 movie starring Grace Kelly and Cary Grant. The French government lists the hotel as a National Historic Building.
In Cannes, history and glamour are inescapably intertwined, and there is plenty of the latter to go around. Sleek mega-yachts moor in the lovely Old Port. Endless designer boutiques line La Croisette, the palm-fringed boulevard that runs along the beach. And at Festival Palace, where the famed Cannes Film Festival is held every year, celebrity handprints and signatures in the pavement include those of actors Gerard Depardieu, Jean-Paul Belmondo and Sophia Loren. Following your guided tour, you’ll have some free time to further explore on your own before rejoining your group and walking back to the pier.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 90-minutes of guided walking plus any additional walking at the guests’ discretion during free time. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with mobility issues. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sun glasses; sunscreen; a bottle of water from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
