Tour one of France’s oldest, most esteemed perfumeries and create your own special fragrance using methods and essences that were once closely guarded secrets.
After departing from the pier, you will drive north through the pastoral countryside to Grasse, a town in the foothills of the Maritime Alps. Blessed with an abundance of water and ideal conditions for growing aromatic flowers, Grasse is considered to be the birthplace of the French perfume industry. Today, it supports dozens of perfumeries that make exquisite perfumes from the nearby fields of jasmine, lavender, violets and other flowers.
Many of the perfumeries date to the 18th and 19th centuries, including Galimard Perfumery. Here in 1747 Count de Galimard created the first pomades and perfumes for the court of King Louis XIV. While touring the factory, you will learn the various stages of perfume production, including extraction and distillation.
Then, under the guidance of a master perfumer, known as a “nose,” you will create a fragrance that is tailored to your personality and lifestyle. The “nose” will explain the architecture of a good perfume to help concoct your fragrance. More than 127 essences will be at your disposal, all categorized according to their individual traits.
Once satisfied that you have captured your essence in a signature perfume, you will celebrate with a champagne cocktail. Your personalized scent will then be preserved in Galilmard’s database should you wish to order more perfume, bath crème or bath gel after you have returned home. Once presented with your personal celebrity fragrance in a decorative bottle, you will re-board your coach and transfer back to the pier.
