Food and wine enthusiasts will love this tour which offers a sampling of some of Madeira's finest wines and local specialty snacks. A perfect start to your day is a visit to Pregetter's Orchid garden where you can immerse yourself in the colorful sight of thousands of different varieties of orchids presented in a tranquil natural environment.
Continuing from here, you'll travel into the heart of Funchal's old town. After a short guided walking tour through the quaint narrow streets, you'll find yourself at your next stop, the historic fortress of Säo Tiago. Upon arrival, the restaurant manager will greet your group and escort you to the wine seminar room where you will enjoy an interesting wine lecture. After learning about the history of the Portuguese table wines and how they can be paired with various dishes, you'll have the opportunity to sample this first-hand with a wine sampling accompanied by some traditional snacks. Included as part of your wine seminar is an informational kit which contains menu samples for tasting with the wines and a bottle of souvenir wine to take home with you.
Leaving the fortress, you will drive along the coastal road to the lovely fishing village of Câmara de Lobos for a visit to "Adega da Quinta". Here you will be offered a sampling of delicious home-produced wine before being treated to a light lunch of local island specialties.
Following lunch, you'll return to Funchal for your final stop at the Casa de Chá tea house where you will be invited up to the second floor kitchen to observe first-hand how they prepare their scrumptious cookies, cakes and petit-fours. After the demonstration, you will have the added pleasure of sampling these various treats while relaxing with a cup of coffee or tea on the outside patio. When your visit is concluded, a short stroll alongside the oceanfront brings you back to your coach for the transfer to the pier.
