From the pier, you will board a comfortable motor coach for the 60-minute drive west to Requena, one of the most beautiful towns that surround Valencia. Along the way, vast grain and grape plantations provide a picturesque background.
On arrival in Requena, you will explore the old town on foot; various churches and municipal buildings are passed along the way.
Your exploration continues into the spectacular caves, which lie directly under the old town. These caves were originally constructed in the medieval ages for grain and wine grape storage. They also served as a shelter from invading armies and battles throughout past centuries. As you trace the steps of Valencia's ancestors, the ambience of the past rises up to meet the reality of the present; it really is an unforgettable experience.
Emerging from the fascinating caves, you will make your way to the renowned and distinguished wine cellar, Pago de Tharsys Cellar. Here, you will enjoy a delicious wine tasting, including local appetizers of Spanish ham, olives and almonds.
Following lunch in a local restaurant, it is time to make the trip back to your ship.
Please note: Guests must be a minimum of 18 years old in order to participate in the wine tasting. As this excursion involves extensive walking over cobblestone streets, negotiating steps at the caves, and corridors and tunnels at the wine cellar, is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties. It is recommended that guests dress in casual clothing and wear flat, comfortable shoes. The order of sights visited may vary.
