Tour Cellar Calatrasi, one of Sicily's most celebrated vineyards, and after learning how its wines are produced, you can sample several of its tastiest, award-winning vintages.
Depart from the pier in a motor coach and drive inland toward beautiful San Cipirello, an agricultural area that has gained a deserved reputation for producing fine wine. Founded in 1860, Cellar Calatrasi is one of the region's most esteemed winemakers and has expanded to include three distinctly different vineyards in Sicily, including the one you'll tour in the shadow of San Cipirello.
Upon arriving at Cellar Calatrasi, which is owned by the Miccichè family, you'll discover all the fascinating details about how they produce award-winning wines. Recently named the Italian Producer of the Year, Cellar Calatrasi uses a large number of smaller tanks to hold the processed grapes. That way, grapes from a single plot in the vineyard can be contained in their own tank, creating a multitude of wines for blending. The results of their passionate approach to wine-making are absolutely magnificent, as you will see by sampling several of the signature wines. To complement the experience, you'll also be offered some locally baked bread and cheese.
After the wine-and-cheese tasting at Cellar Calatrasi, you'll return to the pier via a route that highlights the beauty of Palermo.
