This lovely half-day tour gives you a great overview of this lively city that is the third-largest in Spain. Located strategically on the Mediterranean coast and nearly equidistant from Barcelona and Madrid, Valencia is considered the Spanish gateway to the Mediterranean and boasts many fine beaches, rich cultural opportunities and a colorful history. It was here that El Cid fought against the Moors and where many believe the Holy Grail can be found in the cathedral.
Boarding your coach at the pier, you'll travel to Valencia's historical city center where you'll commence a guided walking tour of some of the most notable medieval landmarks that are located here. This includes Serranos and Quart Towers; the Central Market; Lonja, the old silk exchange that has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site; Round Square; the Cathedral and Plaza de la Virgen, erected atop the site of a former Roman temple and Muslim mosque; the exterior of the Basilica, and the Generalitat Palace, a grandiose Gothic building built in 1421 to serve as the seat of the Valencian Autonomous Government.
Re-joining your coach, you'll next have a panoramic tour of the most modern part of the city, known as The City of Arts and Science. This newest landmark in Valencia is the largest cultural-educational complex in Europe and combines science and learning in an entertaining manner that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Built on approximately two miles of drained riverbed from the diverted Turia river, this complex is comprised of five distinct buildings linked by a common design concept: L'Oceanogràfic, the largest marine park in Europe; Museu de les Ciènces Principe Felipe, a science and technology museum; L'Umbracle, a spectacular covered garden promenade with views of the entire complex; L'Hemisfèric, the world-famous building whose design resembles that of an enormous human eye where visitors can enjoy presentations on a giant screen; and Palau de les Arts, a majestic building that not only serves as a multi-hall auditorium, but also as a significant urban landmark for the city of Valencia.
After having been acquainted with some of the most prominent attractions and highlights of this extraordinary city, your coach will return you to the pier.
Please note: This tour consists of approximately 2 hours of moderate walking over mostly flat or cobblestone surfaces. Wheelchair guests must have someone who can assist them and it is recommended that those guests with mobility concerns evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Lightweight clothing, caps and flat, comfortable walking shoes are suggested.
