Together with our Bon Appetit Culinary Center master chef , visit the spice and fish market of Tangier, shop for a colorful ceramic tagine and explore Moroccan cuisine in a traditional restaurant near the city center. Later, return to the ship for a cooking lesson on the classic Moroccan dish, tagine.

You will gather in the Bon Appetit Culinary Center for an overview of the day's tour, luncheon menu and cooking class. Your chef will review the ingredients and spices that are used in the classic Moroccan dish, tagine, that you will make later in the day. The tagine is both the name of the savory and sweet stew-like dish of Morocco, as well as the colorful conical-shaped pot that the dish is cooked in.

With your chef, you'll meet our local guide and bus on the pier and travel to the Grand Socco, or central market. You'll pass by the famous Mendoubia Gardens near the Grand Socca square. In its day, this market, or souk as it is called, was the place for meeting, selling and buying in the middle of Tangier. Today, it is still a bustling arena of everything from fish to fresh produce to trinkets. Following a short orientation of the market, you will walk with your tour group to the Sidi Bouaabid' area of the Grand Socco, which is known for spices and ceramic tagines. Here, the chef will purchase Moroccon spices such as ras el hanout, la kama and za'atar for your afternoon class. There will be some free time allotted for shopping for spices and ceramic tagines, as well as other Moroccan specialties. In addition to shopping, you can enjoy a cup of Moroccan tea at a street side café, watching the locals 'make deals' with the vendors. Or, you can explore the colorful stalls of vegetables and spices with our chef and guide.

Continuing on, you will drive to the city center via the residential district and main avenues. There you will dine at the traditional Moroccan restaurant ‘Dar Naji’ with your chef and guide. The menu will include signature dishes such a Harira soup, tagine, vegetable cous cous, bastila and Moroccan tea. Your chef will explain each course and help you distinguish the ingredients and cooking techniques used.

When your lunch is concluded, you'll be transported back to the pier and after a short respite re-group with your tour for a private 60-minute cooking class on Moroccan cuisine. You will master the technique of tagine and leave with a recipe handout of classic Moroccan dishes you can now try at home.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 2-hours of moderate to strenuous walking/standing that includes some uneven surfaces and steps to negotiate.
