For a panoramic overview of Ajaccio, you will first drive through town along the fabulous Cours Napoleon, one of the main arteries parallel to the bay. Keep an eye out for the beautiful St. Roch Church and the English Quarter on your way to the Cours Grandval. This boulevard is graced by several statues and monuments dedicated to Napoleon, who was born in Ajaccio in 1769. The famed emperor's influence is highly evident, especially during your stop in Austerlitz Square. It's dominated by an imposing statue of Napoleon that's dedicated to his victory at The Battle of Austerlitz, which is considered a tactical masterpiece. Continuing on, you will see the red-rock Iles Sanguinaires in surrounding sea, and then tour Ajaccio on foot. The old part of town is truly picturesque. Its narrow streets wind past landmarks such as the cathedral where Napoleon was baptized, Napoleon's birthplace, Market Square and the Fesch Museum. It contains a fantastic collection of art from Napoleon's maternal uncle, Cardinal Fesch.
Please note: This tour involves walking over uneven pavement and grounds and is not recommended for guests who have difficulty walking. Interior visits are not included on this tour.
