The historic beauty of Bilbao is yours to discover during a visit to Getxo, where you will ride above the Hanging Bridge and tour the Old Quarter.
Departing from the pier, you will enjoy a short drive to Getxo, an elegant residential town nestled on the bank of the Nervion River and featuring large, English-style homes. Upon arrival, you will take a panoramic drive of the city and then proceed for a visit to the nearby Hanging Bridge, or Bizkaia Bridge. The Bridge joins the riverbanks at Portugalete and Las Arenas, allowing for free-flowing maritime traffic. Reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower due to its iron structure, this over 100 year-old old masterpiece of engineering is now the oldest transporter bridge in the world. During your visit, you will have an opportunity to ride one of the lifts to a height of 145 feet above sea level and take in spectacular views of Getxo, the Nervion River and Abra Port.
Next, you will re-board your coach for the drive to the heart of Bilbao, followed by a 1-hour guided walking tour through the historic Old Quarter. As you stroll along the narrow streets lined with Renaissance, Baroque and Modernist buildings, your guide will point out sites that include the Cathedral of Santiago, a Gothic church built at the end of the 14th century, the Bridge, Church of San Anton and Plaza Nueva.
Your visit will conclude with a drive up Artxanda Hill for spectacular views of the city and the Guggenheim Museum.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 1 hour of moderate walking, some of it over cobblestone surfaces. The tour is not considered suitable for wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. Weather appropriate clothing; flat, comfortable walking shoe, a hat and sunglasses are recommended. The order of the sites viewed or visited may vary.
