Experience Antibes’ irresistible Old Town through its signature attractions: the open-air Provençal Market, esteemed Picasso Museum and a traditional store that sells absinthe.

Walk directly from the pier, passing by one of Europe’s largest yacht harbors, where you will undoubtedly see several gleaming mega-yachts. Antibes was founded right here in the 5th century, and the Old Town is close at hand. The narrow streets twist and turn in a wonderful maze that unites both the Roman and medieval sections. In the 16th century, ramparts were built to protect Antibes, and they still stand as a reminder of the region’s turbulent history.

Another hallmark of the Old Town is the bustling Provençal market, a bounty of garden-fresh produce, flowers, seafood and every other imaginable comestible. It’s an absolute riot of bright colors, exotic fragrances and mesmerizing sounds that will inundate your senses.

Then, it’s on to the Picasso Museum, which is housed in Château Grimaldi, where the artist lived in 1946. Picasso created 43 drawings and 23 paintings in his studio here, including the iconic “Joie de Vivre,” all of which are displayed in the museum.

While in Antibes, Picasso enjoyed sipping absinthe, a wormwood-based highly alcoholic beverage popularized by 19th-century artists. You’ll have the chance to sample a glass of absinthe, also known as the Green Fairy, at a traditional store that’s located in a 9th-century cellar. Afterwards, feel free to remain in the Old Town to further explore on your own, or walk back to the pier with the guide.

Please note: This tour includes over 3-hours of moderate walking/standing. There are some steps, cobblestone surfaces and inclines to negotiate. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; a bottle of water from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The tour sequence may vary.
