Delve into Cartagena's almost 3,000 years of history on this walking tour that visits several of its most notable and historic sites. Due to its strategic location and protection from the 5 military defensive hills that surround it, the city has throughout time, been a very important port area.
Meeting your guide at the pier, your tour begins with a 20-minute walk to the House of Fortune. Designed to give visitors an insight into how families lived during Roman times, you will be able to view the various rooms of the house, ranging from the meeting room to the banquet rooms and the bedrooms. On display are crockery, coins and decorative items, all helping to give you a real glimpse into how life was during this period of time.
From the House of Fortune, you will next make your way on foot to Conception Castle. Situated on one of the five hills that served to protect the city, a panoramic lift (only 8 per car so there may be some delays) brings you up to the terrace roof of Conception Castle, where you will be treated to amazing views over the city. On this site is housed an Interpretation Center, which relates the history of Cartagena for visitors. Built on the remains of the castle that shares the same name (or is more popularly known as ""Castle of the Ducks""), the Center is now an integral part of Torres Park.
Traveling back down the hill, you will continue on foot to the town hall square where your guide will give you a brief introduction about the square and the surrounding buildings. Following that, you will have some free time in the main shopping street which is filled with a wealth of shops, cafés and restaurants. Take some time to stroll about and do some shopping or enjoy some refreshment before rejoining your guide.
Your guided tour resumes with a walk to Decumanus, an old Roman road where you can see how the Roman baths were constructed and what life was like in a Roman city. Following your outside visit here, your guide will escort you back to the pier.
We will then make our way back to the port.
