Enjoy a unique perspective of Corsica’s magnificent southern coastline while cruising in a motorboat to the Lavezzi Islands, where you will have time to enjoy the beach.
After departing from the pier, you will drive to medieval Bonafacio, the oldest commune in Corsica. At the harbor, you will then board a motorboat and cruise through a narrow entrance to the sea called the Goulet. Along the way, you will pass Sdragonatu, a sea-level grotto easily recognized by its jagged arch.
You will soon enter the Strait of Bonifacio, an aquamarine stretch of sea that divides French Corsica from Sardinia, its Italian neighbor to the south. Looking back toward Bonifacio, you may be surprised to see a number of extraordinary mansions and buildings constructed to the very edge of the precipitous, chalky-white limestone cliffs. This is the upper town or Haute Ville, a maze of charming alleyways that dates to the 9th century.
After approximately an hour drinking in the scenery at sea, you will arrive at Lavezzi, the island that lends its name to the entire archipelago. Here, you will be free to enjoy the beach, swim in the typically calm waters, and explore the uninhabited island at your leisure. Depending on where you wander, you may see rare species of wildflowers such as the yellow-horned poppy and funnel-shaped white sea daffodil.
In time, you will retrace your route by boat and then drive back to the pier in Porto Vecchio.
