This tour offers a wonderful juxtaposition of cityscapes and the scenic countryside surrounding Barcelona.
Your tour commences with a drive through the city's Montjuic area and past the Olympic stadium, en route to Plaza Catalunya, which is considered to be the heart of the city. From here, you will continue along Paseo de Gracia, the wide boulevard that connects the Gothic Quarter to the quarter of Gracia, and where you will see a variety of spectacular art nouveau buildings, including Antonio Gaudi's Casa Batlló and Casa Milà. At the Sagrada Familia, the famed architect's masterpiece, you will stop for pictures of this unforgettable, iconic church.
The landscape changes dramatically during the drive to Montserrat and its sacred monastery, which is perched atop a mountain between oddly shaped pillars of stone. Upon arrival, enjoy free time for lunch on your own, a little shopping, or simply contemplate the beautiful setting. Once inside, watch a fascinating, introductory film depicting a typical day in the monks' lives. You will also be treated to a glorious performance of the Escolania de Montserrat Choir, Europe's oldest boy choir, and a look at the monastery's revered wooden statue of the Virgin, which has attracted pilgrims since the 12th century.
Please note: Respectful attire that covers shoulders and knees should be worn in order to enter the church. Due to new parking restriction for coaches, please be advised that there will be a 15-minute walk from the parking area to the Sagrada Familia and vice-versa (30-min in total).
