Driving to the Hassan II Mosque, you are sure to notice its towering minaret first-it's the world's tallest. The mosque itself is also enormous with room for 25,000 people inside and another 80,000 outside. Inaugurated in 1993, the mosque incorporates a number of modern features, including electric doors, a sliding roof and a glass floor that allows worshippers to kneel directly over the sea. Still, the mosque bears a strong Moorish influence. Next, you will drive to El Jadida, a city founded in the early 16th century by the Portuguese, who called it Mazagan. The fortification here, with its bastions and ramparts, is an excellent example of Renaissance military design. Its cistern, an enormous underground reservoir contained within amazing Gothic architecture, is often used by film-makers, including Orson Welles in his movie "Othello." After a buffet lunch at the Hotel Sofitel Royal Golf Club at El Jadida, you will return to Casablanca and enjoy free time on your own for shopping or further exploration.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 2 hours of walking, plus any additional walking at the guests' discretion during free time. There are also some steps to be negotiated and it is not considered suitable for wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. When visiting the Mosque, knees, shoulders and ankles must be covered. Shorts and sleeveless shirts are not permitted. Ladies must wear headscarves inside the mosque, no hats allowed. Guides will provide ladies with headscarves at the entrance of the Mosque.
