In terms of scenic enchantment there's little that can beat the outlook of Ireland's west coast. Enjoy a two day overland experience which takes in some of the natural highlights including the amazing cliffs of Moher in County Clare, where you will see phenomenal views of rockface, sea and lashing waves over the Atlantic Ocean and Aran Islands. Visit also the sublime Connemara area of County Galway, consisting of nearly 30 square kilometres of spectacular scenery, from forests to heathland and great swathes of blanket bog. The Connemara Heritage Centre offers a unique insight into the history and heritage of this most beautiful part of the West of Ireland and a stop will be made here. The centre is based around the restored pre-famine cottage of Dan O' Hara who was forced to emigrate in the 1840's when he was evicted from his home. Another local attraction worthy of exploration is Kylemore Abbey, located in the Kylemore Pass in Connemara, Co. Galway, which has been home to the Irish Benedictine nuns since 1920. The Benedictine nuns bought the house in 1920, having fled their convent in war-torn Belgium in 1914, where they ran a boarding school for girls for over 300 years. They re-established the school here and it is still very much alive today.
The tour will also take you through Limerick, dominated by the impressive 13th Century King John's Castle, once the most formidable English fortification in Ireland, the City stands as the third largest in Ireland and the veritable gateway to the magnificent Shannon Region and beyond.
One of the most prominent features of Ireland is its medieval remnants and beloved castles and this overland adventure offers a fantastic opportunity to spend a night at Dromoland Castle, one of finest castle hotels in Ireland. The castle, a magnificent Renaissance structure built in the 16th Century, was once the royal seat of the O'Brien Clan. Refurbished and transformed into a luxury castle hotel in 1962, it retains priceless reminders of the castle's historic past.
