PRE - JERUSALEM: A HOLY SANCTUARY - 2023

Explore the heart of the Holy Land by visiting many of the most hallowed religious areas, including the Old City of Jerusalem, Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity, fortified Masada and architecturally rich Caesarea.

Please Note:

This tour includes extensive walking and is only recommended for guests in good physical condition. This tour is not wheelchair accessible. Please be reminded in religious locations to have shoulders and knees covered.

DAY 1

After flying into the Ben Gurion Airport on the outskirts of Tel Aviv, you will be met outside of Customs and Immigration and transferred to your hotel in Jerusalem, where you will spend the next three evenings. Check in is 3:00pm. Although every effort will be made to have rooms available sooner, this cannot be guaranteed. A hospitality desk will be available at the hotel from 4:00pm to 8:00pm (timing subject to change) should you have any questions.

The afternoon and evening are free for you to settle in, enjoy the hotel’s amenities or explore the city. Meals are on your own for the remainder of the day.

DAY 2

Following a full Israeli breakfast, you will enjoy a panoramic drive over the Mount of Olives, which is named for the olive groves that once flourished here. A stop at nearby Gethsemane, which in Hebrew means “oil press,” allows time to wander through the gardens and reflect on this religious site.

Then, it’s on to the Old City for an enlightening walking tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. As a holy city for Judaism, Christianity and Islam, Jerusalem has great symbolic importance. After approximately two hours of exploring its landmarks, you will continue on to a nearby restaurant for lunch.

More iconic religious sites await you a short drive away in Bethlehem, including the Church of the Nativity, one of the world’s oldest surviving Christian churches. The small rectangular entrance, known as the Door of Humility, was created in Ottoman times so even the most important visitors would have to dismount their horses to enter.

You will also have some time for shopping in Bethlehem before returning to the hotel in Jerusalem. The evening is free to do as you please and dinner is on your own.

NOTE: The walking tour of the Old City includes passing along the Via Dolorosa and thus seeing several of the Stations of the Cross (not including the churches). A visit is made inside the Church of the Holy Sepulcher however due to extreme crowding and long lines, only the main part of the church is seen. (The Golgotha is not seen). The group will also see the Wailing Wall (Western Wall).

DAY 3

After enjoying a full Israeli breakfast, you will drive inland toward the Dead Sea. The landscape becomes hauntingly stark the deeper you go into the Judean Desert. In time, you will reach Masada, the rugged natural fortress where Jewish patriots famously defied the Roman army in 73 A.D.

Herod, King of Judaea, originally built Masada as a great palace and it has since become an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fortifications and attack ramp surrounding the mountaintop monument are the world’s most complete Roman siege works and of great historical value.

Then following lunch, you will drive down to the Dead Sea. If you wish, you may relax in the water, which is comprised of as much as 35% dissolved salts, making it easy to float on the surface. Because of the water’s high salinity, marine life is almost non-existent in the Dead Sea.

Later in the afternoon, you will drive back to the hotel, where the evening and dinner are on your own.

Note: Restroom and change facilities will be available for those who wish to swim in the Dead Sea.

DAY 4

Following a full Israeli breakfast and check out from the hotel, you will drive to Caesarea, a coastal town with a wealth of modern and ancient attractions. Named for Augustus Caesar, who gave this area to King Herod, Caesarea is full of architectural remains from various historical periods, giving you an excellent glimpse into ancient lifestyles.

After visiting, you will drive through the coastal mountain range of Mount Carmel, where you will be treated to a spectacular view of Haifa Bay and the gorgeous Baha’i Gardens. Then, it’s on to the port of Haifa, where you will embark on the ship to begin your cruise.

DAY 1

After departing from Haifa, you will enjoy a picturesque drive along the shores of the inviting Mediterranean Sea and make your way to Caesarea Maritime. Herod the Great built this ancient port city on the ruins of an anchorage known as Stratton’s tower.

Named in honor of Herod’s patron, Augustus Caesar, the city became the capital of Roman and Byzantine Palestine. The city is also known as being the location of the Roman victory celebration after the fall of Jerusalem, as well as the place where Rabbi Akiva and his disciples were executed following the suppression of the Bar Kochba revolt.

A center for Christian learning during the 3rd century, Caesarea is considered an important site in Christian history. It is here that Pontius Pilate governed during the time of Jesus, where Simon Peter converted Cornelius and where Paul was imprisoned for two years. Destroyed at the end of the 13th century, this marvelous ancient city boasts a spectacular Roman amphitheater where performances are still held today, an impressive Byzantine street, an aqueduct and restored Crusader fortifications, along with other artifacts.

You will have some free time to walk around the galleries and waterfront before driving to Tel Aviv. Your adventure there begins with a panoramic drive through the city, a beachside metropolis of modern tower blocks and skyscrapers. You will pass the Tel Aviv Art Museum, the Habimah National Theatre and the Yitzhak Rabin memorial before driving down Rothschild Avenue to admire the Bauhaus buildings that helped earn Tel Aviv its UNESCO World Heritage site status.

In time, you will drive along Tel Aviv’s gorgeous seafront on the way to Old Jaffa. Following lunch, you will stop in the Old Jaffa Visitors Center, whose exhibitions will describe the city’s long and turbulent history.

Afterwards, you will drive to Jerusalem and check into the hotel. A bit of free time follows, after which you will enjoy dinner at a nearby restaurant.

DAY 2

Following a buffet breakfast at the hotel, you will head on to the Mount of Olives. From this vantage point high above the city, you will have the opportunity to take in the breathtaking view of Jerusalem’s urban landscape.

Next, you will start a walking tour of the Old City. Entering via the Jaffa Gate, you will walk past some of the most sacred sites in religious history. Your route will flank the colorful bazaar and pass the Christian Quarter, part of the Via Dolorosa and the golden-topped Dome of the Rock, the third-holiest site in Islam. You will then view the famous Western, or Wailing Wall, the holiest site in the Jewish world. A visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher is also included. Perched on Golgotha Hill, the church marks the site of Jesus’ crucifixion, burial and resurrection.

Afterwards, you will stop for a traditional lunch at a restaurant in the Old City. Later, you will proceed through the Judean Hills to Bethlehem on the desert rim. Upon arriving, you will visit the renowned Church of the Nativity, built over a grotto that is believed to be the birthplace of Jesus.

You will then enjoy a relaxing ride back to the pier in Haifa.

Please Note: There is a considerable amount of walking in Jerusalem on sometimes uneven ground. While passing through the Old City, it is imperative to always follow the guide, as this is also a bazaar and can be busy. After a morning of extraordinary vistas, you will be treated to a buffet lunch. Following the meal, you may experience the exquisite sensation of floating effortlessly upon the sea’s buoyant waters. With more salt and minerals than any other body of water in the world, the Dead Sea is considered to be a natural health and beauty spa.

OVERLAND - SACRED SITES OF ISRAEL (HFA-ASH)

The Judaean Desert and the old quarter of Jerusalem are home to some of Israel’s holiest sites and provide telling windows into the past. Ascend to the summit of Masada, a UNESCO World Heritage site where Jewish patriots once defied the Roman army. Float in the remarkably salty Dead Sea, learn about the famed biblical scrolls found nearby and stand in awe before the Western Wall, a remnant of the Second Temple. Sacred sites are just as plentiful in Bethlehem, especially the Church of the Nativity.

This overnight program is conducted with luxury vans or mini busses holding no more than 10 guests and a guide in each vehicle.

Please Note: There is a substantial amount of activity, including a lot of walking and some steep steps to negotiate. The sights on this tour are also not wheelchair accessible and therefore the program is not available to guests utilizing a wheelchair or for those guests with walking difficulty or other mobility concerns. DAY 1

After boarding your van at the pier in Haifa, you will travel through the dramatic landscape of the Judean desert and descend 3,600 feet toward the Dead Sea— the lowest point on earth. Your first stop will be at breathtaking Masada, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is also one of the most spectacular archaeological sites in Israel.

Here, you will ascend by cable car to the summit of the mountaintop fortress, which was built by Herod the Great. Plenty of time will be allowed to explore the magnificent ancient ruins, which include Herod’s three-tiered palace, the synagogue, baths, defending walls and water cisterns, which are still considered an engineering feat.

The afternoon continues with a picturesque drive along the shores of the Dead Sea to Qumran and the Qumran Visitor’s Center. It was here in 1947 that a Bedouin shepherd boy discovered the Dead Sea Scrolls, the oldest known biblical manuscripts in the world.

Departing Qumran, you will ascend into the Judean Hills, sighting Jericho to the north as you make your way to Jerusalem for an overnight stay. Upon arriving at the hotel, you will have some time to freshen up before a buffet dinner in the hotel’s restaurant.

Note: Walking atop Masada is on mostly natural earthen surfaces with loose stones at times. Guests with mobility concerns are able to use the cable car however may experience difficulties in exploring Masada as the ground is uneven. Guests wishing to swim should bring a swimsuit. A towel will be available at the facility. Guests taking part in any water activities may do so at their own risk and responsibility. The order of sites visited may vary.

OVERLAND - SACRED SITES OF ISRAEL - 2023

The Judaean Desert and the old quarter of Jerusalem are home to some of Israel’s holiest sites and provide telling windows into the past. Ascend to the summit of Masada, a UNESCO World Heritage site where Jewish patriots once defied the Roman army. Float in the remarkably salty Dead Sea, learn about the famed biblical scrolls found nearby and stand in awe before the Western Wall, a remnant of the Second Temple. Sacred sites are just as plentiful in Bethlehem, especially the Church of the Nativity.

This overnight program is conducted with luxury vans or mini busses holding no more than 6-7 guests and a guide in each vehicle.

Please Note: There is a substantial amount of activity, including a lot of walking and some steep steps to negotiate. The sights on this tour are also not wheelchair accessible and therefore the program is not available to guests utilizing a wheelchair or for those guests with walking difficulty or other mobility concerns. When visiting the religious sites, your head must be covered, and conservative attire is required. Shorts and sleeveless shirts are not permitted.

You will then view the famous Western Wall, the holiest site in the Jewish world. A visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher is also included. Perched on Golgotha Hill, the church marks the site of Jesus’ crucifixion, burial and resurrection.

Afterwards, you will stop for a buffet lunch at a restaurant in the Old City. Later, you will proceed through the Judean Hills to Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus, located on the desert rim. Upon arriving, you will visit the renowned Church of the Nativity, built over a grotto that is believed to be the birthplace of Jesus.

Then, enjoy a relaxing ride back to the pier in Haifa.

Note: There is a considerable amount of walking during this portion of the tour on sometimes uneven ground. POST - JERUSALEM: A HOLY SANCTUARY - 2024

Explore the heart of the Holy Land by visiting many of the most hallowed religious areas, including the Old City of Jerusalem, Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity, fortified Masada and architecturally rich Caesarea.

This Post Land program is conducted with luxury vans or minibuses holding no more than 10 guests and a guide in each vehicle.

Please Note:

This tour includes extensive walking and is only recommended for guests in good physical condition. This tour is not wheelchair accessible. Please be reminded in religious locations to have shoulders and knees covered.

Day 1

After disembarking the ship in Haifa, you will begin your program with a drive through the coastal mountain range of Mount Carmel, where you will be treated to a spectacular view of Haifa Bay and the gorgeous Baha’i Gardens.

Next you will proceed to Caesarea, a coastal town with a wealth of modern and ancient attractions. Named for Augustus Caesar, who gave this area to King Herod, Caesarea is full of architectural remains from various historical periods, giving you an excellent glimpse into ancient lifestyles.

Here you will have some free time to wander at your leisure and perhaps enjoy some lunch before transferring to your hotel, where you will spend the next three evenings.

Dinner is on your own this evening.

After lunch, more iconic religious sites await you a short drive away in Bethlehem, including the Church of the Nativity, one of the world’s oldest surviving Christian churches. The small rectangular entrance, known as the Door of Humility, was created in Ottoman times so even the most important visitors would have to dismount their horses to enter.

You will also have some time for shopping in Bethlehem before transferring to your hotel in Jerusalem where the remainder of the day and evening are free at leisure and dinner is on your own.

Day 4

After breakfast, you will be checking out from the hotel for your transfer to the Ben Gurion Airport. For guests with late flights, luggage storage will be available at your hotel.

POST - JERUSALEM: A HOLY SANCTUARY - 2024

Explore the heart of the Holy Land by visiting many of the most hallowed religious areas, including the Old City of Jerusalem, Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity, fortified Masada, and architecturally rich Caesarea.

Next, you will proceed to Caesarea, a coastal town with a wealth of modern and ancient attractions.

As a holy city for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, Jerusalem has great symbolic importance. After approximately two hours of exploring its landmarks, you will continue on to a nearby restaurant for lunch.

Day 4

After breakfast, you will be checking out from the hotel for your transfer to the Ben Gurion Airport. For guests with late flights, luggage storage will be available at your hotel.

•Please note: The order of sites visited may vary to avoid congestion. All program timings are approximate, given here for general reference purposes and subject to change.
