DAY 1: Kruger National Park Safari – Arrival & Day 1 Highlights
Upon disembarkation in Maputo, an English-speaking representative will escort you to Maputo Airport for your chartered flight to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (approx. 25 minutes). Upon arrival, a lodge representative will greet you and transfer you by road (approx. 2 hours) to your extraordinary accommodation: Kruger Shalati – The Train on the Bridge.
Suspended above the Sabie River on the historic Selati Bridge, this train hotel pays tribute to the early explorers of Kruger National Park, offering a unique blend of heritage and modern indulgence.

Awaken to the sounds of the bush with an early morning call, followed by tea, coffee, and biscuits before setting off on your morning game drive. This immersive experience explores the southern region of Kruger National Park, renowned for its rich biodiversity and dramatic landscapes.
Framed by the Crocodile River to the south and the Sabie River to the north, this area features the rugged Lebombo Mountains and the park’s highest point, Khandzalive. Unique flora such as Cape Chestnut, coral trees, and lavender fever-berry thrive in the valleys, habitats that support an abundance of wildlife, including frequent sightings of the Big Five.
Return to Kruger Shalati – The Train on the Bridge for a hearty breakfast, then enjoy leisure time. Whether you choose to relax in your luxury carriage, take a dip in the overhanging pool, or simply watch wildlife from the deck, the day is yours. Return to Kruger Shalati, The Train on the Bridge for breakfast, followed by check-out formalities. Your English-speaking representative will then escort you to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport for your flight to Durban via Johannesburg.
Upon arrival in Johannesburg, a local representative will assist with your connection to Durban. Once in Durban, you’ll be greeted by a guide who will help with your luggage and transfer you comfortably to Durban Harbor, marking the seamless conclusion of your unforgettable safari journey.

General Information
Electricity: South Africa’s electrical system is 220/230 volts 50 A/C cycles. Most hotels have hair dryers and plug adaptors in the bedrooms.
Expected Weather: South Africa’s seasons are the reverse of those in the northern hemisphere. Midwinter is June and midsummer is December and January. The climate varies from region to region but is generally mild throughout the year. Expect it to be hot during the day and much cooler in the evenings.
What to Bring: Light cotton tops and cotton trousers and shorts in summer. Safari trousers and warm fleece tops for evenings and cooler days. Also, bring swimwear, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, camera and chargers and personal toiletries.
Currency: The monetary unit of South Africa is the Rand (ZAR). All major credit cards are accepted at most establishments, although Visa and Mastercard are the most widely accepted cards.
Luggage: Guests are permitted to check in free of charge one suitcase not weighing more than 20kg/44 lbs. per bag.
Excess or overweight luggage will be charged accordingly at check in for your flight. Guests will require soft sided luggage for the light aircraft flights.
Carriage of Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines on internal flights per airline regulations (subject to change as each airline has their own regulations)
1.Guests must obtain a doctor’s certificate mentioning their medical condition and the need to carry this equipment with them on their flights.
2.The certificate should have attached a picture of the equipment with its description/specifications, especially with regards to the type of batteries used (lithium/dry or any other type).
3.These documents must be sent to the Land Program Team via the Reservations Team at least one month prior to travel so that our local operator can begin the notification process with the airline(s).
4.Failure to comply with the above regulations may result in a denial of this equipment at the airport for which the cruise line nor our local ground operator can be responsible for.
Please note: Some airlines may impose restrictions or specific requirements when transporting wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or other assistive devices. We recommend checking directly with your airline or the Cruise Lines prior to departure to ensure compliance with their policies.
Documents and Visa Requirements: A valid passport with at least six months’ validity and two consecutive blank pages is required for entry into South Africa and Mozambique. Travelers should confirm visa requirements with their local embassy, as regulations and fees may change without notice. Visa costs are not included in this program.
Vaccination & Health Regulations: Guests are also responsible for confirming current vaccination requirements with their local health authority. Vaccination and visa costs are not included in the program price. Anti-malarial precautions are essential when visiting game parks, and we strongly recommend consulting a qualified healthcare professional for guidance based on your itinerary and personal health history. Travelers arriving from a yellow-fever zone must present a valid International Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate upon entry into South Africa.

Game drive vehicles are open and uncovered, so guests should bring sunhats, sunscreen, sunglasses, and plenty of water. Don’t forget your camera and binoculars!
•Terrain & Accessibility: Roads within the game reserve are gravel and may include inclines and bumpy sections. This program is not recommended for guests with back or neck issues or for pregnant travelers.
•This is not a fully guided program. While local representatives will assist with transfers, all lodge-based activities are managed independently by the lodge staff.
Land programs that encompass multiple days ashore customarily include extensive and prolonged activity, while those of shorter durations typically have more moderate activity levels. However, each program varies, and participants should be prepared to negotiate a mixture of surfaces which may include: inclines, cobblestones, sand, and gravel or natural paths. There may also be a need to climb steps or stairs on occasion. This program is not recommended for guests who require the use of a wheelchair or mobility scooters. Guests with mobility concerns are advised to carefully assess their personal physical capabilities and stamina. Participants must be able to independently board and disembark from transportation, including motor coaches, and should be accompanied by an able-bodied companion if assistance is needed. Guests who choose to use independent transportation or wheelchair services provided by third-party companies may do so at their own risk and responsibility. We encourage guests to contact the cruise line in advance to discuss any specific mobility-related questions or concerns before booking this program.
