PRE - WHISTLER AND VANCOUVER

PRE - WHISTLER AND VANCOUVER

Enjoy the natural beauty and historical attractions of Vancouver before heading into the stunning mountains to the north, where you will spend a delightful day independently exploring the famed Whistler Village area.

DAY 1

After flying into Vancouver, you will transfer to the Fairmont Vancouver Downtown Hotel in the heart of the downtown waterfront. Check in is at 4:00pm. Although every effort will be made to have rooms ready before this time, this cannot be guaranteed.

The remainder of the day is at your leisure, allowing you plenty of time to settle in and relax. Meals are on your own, and there are plenty of restaurants in the hotel and within easy walking distance.

DAY 2

Following breakfast and check out of the hotel, you will tour Vancouver, beginning with Stanley Park. At nearly 1,000 acres, it is one of the world's largest urban parks. Sprawling across a peninsula covered by rainforest, it juts into the sea, providing an unspoiled world for an abundance of wildlife. One of the most scenic spots is Prospect Point, where you will pause to take in the spectacular views of the inner harbor, North Shore Mountains and Lions Gate Bridge.

Next, you will see the collection of colorful totem poles at Brockton Point, an area that features enlightening open-air displays on the Coast Salish First Nations. Then, from the comfort of the coach, you will drive through Vancouver's most historical neighborhoods, including Chinatown, Yaletown and Coal Harbour.

Arriving in Gastown, you will enjoy free time to stroll along the cobbled streets, which are illuminated by antique gaslights at night. Named after "Gassy" Jack Deighton, a Yorkshire seaman who arrived in 1867 to open the area's first saloon, Gastown was Vancouver's first urban center. Be sure to see its quirky urban timepiece, the Steam Clock at Water and Cambie streets, which gives a steamy rendition of the Westminster chimes every 15 minutes, drawing its power from the city's underground steam-heat system.

Then, you will drive north toward Whistler, stopping along the way at the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Park. The 450-foot, pedestrian-only bridge crosses a deep gorge of the Capilano River. Walking across the bridge, you can actually feel it sway. Upon reaching the other side, you will follow a series of platforms that wind through a primordial forest and offer wonderful views. During this stop, you will have time for lunch on your own.

Continuing on, you will drive along the winding and immensely scenic Sea to Sky Highway on the way to Whistler, home of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Here you will check into the Fairmont Chateau Whistler in Whistler Village. The remainder of the day is at leisure with meals on your own.

Located at the base of Blackcomb Mountain, the hotel offers a luxurious alpine setting, exceptional dining, and a relaxing spa. The concierge team will assist with planning your free time in the hotel and around Whistler Village.

Day 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, the entire day is yours to enjoy in whatever manner you prefer. Depending on the time of year that you visit, you might ride a fully enclosed gondola up the slopes, go hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, zip lining or browse Whistler Museum, much of which is devoted to Whistler's Olympic story.

Whistler Village offers a variety of fine dining, extraordinary shopping and highly entertaining events year-round. There is simply no end to the activities and because there isn't a formal schedule you can spend the day doing whatever you find most appealing.

Day 4

After breakfast and check out from the hotel, you will transfer back to Vancouver via the picturesque Sea to Sky Highway and embark the ship.

Meals other than breakfast, as well as activities, are on your own until Day 2 of the program. Be sure that the cruise line has your up-to-date flight details.

POST - NAPA & SAN FRANCISCO

POST - NAPA & SAN FRANCISCO

Explore the icons in and around spectacular San Francisco, enjoying tastings in Napa and Sonoma Valley’s famed wine country, shopping in lovely Sausalito, and a tour of the notorious prison on Alcatraz.

DAY 1

Following disembarkation, you will board a motor coach for an approximate 30-minute journey across the Golden Gate Bridge, which is often shrouded in fog. After a stop at Vista Point for a fabulous view of the “City by the Bay,” you will continue on into nearby Sausalito Village.

After about 90 minute free time exploring the shops and galleries of Sausalito, you will drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and to the Alcatraz ferry docks, enjoying a panoramic view of the famous San Francisco skyline along the way.

While touring Alcatraz, known as “The Rock,” you will see the small jail cells and discover all sorts of fascinating facts about the notorious prison that once housed the likes of Al Capone and the Birdman of Alcatraz. Afterwards, you will return to the mainland and you will be transported to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure.

Important Additional Information - Wheelchairs (collapsible or electric) are not permitted at Alcatraz. Tour operators will deny participation to guests arriving in wheelchairs or electric scooters.

DAY 2

Following breakfast in the hotel, you will board an air-conditioned motor coach for an approximate 30-minute narrated scenic drive past Pier 39, through lively Fisherman's Wharf, along the Marina District, by the Palace of Fine Arts and the Presidio, and across the Golden Gate Bridge en route to Sonoma, where the rich soils gave birth to California’s wine industry.

Sonoma is the closest wine region to San Francisco, just 45 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. You will start your wine tour at Cline Cellars, nestled in the southern foothills of the Sonoma Valley. In the latter part of the 1800s, this area was a booming farming community with thousands of acres of orchards and healthy vineyards. Fred Cline’s maternal grandfather, Valeriano Jacuzzi of spa fame, called this place home.

On summer visits to his grandparents, Fred learned to love the agricultural life and how to vinify grapes into wine. In 1982, with an inheritance from his grandfather, Fred founded Cline Cellars near Oakley, California. Here, he preserved and restored many ancient vine sites to reign as premier California wine lands.

After approximately one hour at the vineyard, you will board the coach for a short stop in Sonoma’s historic town plaza, which offers a shady park surrounded by charming boutiques, superb cuisine, landmark buildings, and fabulous restaurants. Enjoy approximately 60 minutes of free time to browse the shops and enjoy lunch at leisure and on your own.

Next, you will travel to Napa Valley's Carneros wine region where you will stop at the Domaine Carmeros.

This premium wine growing region enjoys the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean and summer fog, making it an ideal growing area for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Domaine Carneros is the California expression of the tradition and excellence of its founder, Champagne Taittinger. Established in 1987, Domaine Carneros is considered a regional landmark with exquisite views of endless vineyard-covered hills.

On this very unique tasting tour, you will be guided through the process of creating fine sparkling wines in the traditional method while sampling a variety of Domaine Carneros wines along the way. Your experienced wine educator will also present Domaine Carneros still wine production and you will enjoy a taste of the delicate and seductive Pinot Noir.

You will spend over an hour here before returning to San Francisco via the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.

Important Additional Information: Wheelchairs need to be standard size and collapsible; no electric wheelchairs/scooters are permitted. Guests must be ambulatory and able to board and disembark the motor coach on their own. Guests should dress warmly, in layers and carry rain gear. Guests are encouraged to bring currency and credit cards to purchase extras such as souvenirs or food and beverage options.
