Begin with a scenic drive through central Oslo, passing the City Hall, National Theater, Royal Residence and suburban villa areas while on your way to Bygdøy. Once the King's private property, today it is partially designated as a museum area.

Your first stop is the famous Viking Ships Museum. The ships on display here are very well-preserved and serve as an excellent example of the Viking period's daring initiative and ship building craftsmanship. There is also a collection of household implements found during the excavations of the ships.

Continue on to the Kon Tiki Museum, housing the original balsa raft used by Thor Heyerdahl and his five companions. In 1947, their voyage took them from Peru to Polynesia, crossing 1,864 miles of ocean. You will also find the papyrus-boat RA II with which Thor Heyerdahl used to successfully cross the Atlantic Ocean in 1970. A good selection of documentary material is also on display.

Finally, we pay a visit to FRAM, built by Colin Archer in 1892 to explore the Polar Regions. FRAM was the ship that was used in expeditions of the Artic and Antartic regions by the Norwegian explorers. One Norwegian explorer, Roald Amundsen, was the first to reach the South Pole and he used FRAM during his expedition of 1910 11.

From Bygdøy you will drive along the harbor with its many pleasure boats and have a glimpse of the charming "Oscarshall" castle, the summer residence of the Swedish/Norwegian King Oscar I.

The tour will conclude back at the pier.

Please note: This tour includes approximately 2 hours of walking. There are also a considerable number of steps to be negotiated and it is not considered suitable for wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. A windbreaker or light jacket and comfortable, flat walking shoes are suggested. The order of the sites viewed or visited may vary.
