Enjoy a delightful bicycle ride pedaling around Bonaire’s relatively flat countryside, admiring the island’s natural beauty and observing daily life in the tropics.

After a short walk from the pier, you’ll drive through beautiful Kralendijk to pick up your mountain bike and begin your cycling adventure. As you pedal north along the coast, the natural beauty surrounding Bonaire’s capital will soon unfold. At Tolo Beach, a spectacular stretch of sand also known as Ol’ Blue, you’ll pause to enjoy the panorama. Farther up the coast, you’ll find Landhouse Karpata, a former plantation that raised goats, grew aloe and produced charcoal, much of it for export. You may also see wild donkeys lazing about, as they have been on the island since the Spanish introduced them more than 500 years ago.

Ahead lies Goto Lake, a favorite gathering place for Bonaire’s abundant flamingoes. They come to the saltwater lake to dine on brine shrimp, a diet that endows them with a beautiful rosy hue. While highly social among their own species, flamingoes are skittish around humans and prefer to keep their distance. You may observe other avian species at Dos Pos, a drinking well at a nearby plantation that attracts common birds such as the bananaquit.

Finally, you will bicycle into Rincon, Bonaire’s oldest town, which the Spanish founded in 1499. Following a tour of the Cadushy distillery, which produces the world’s only liqueur made from cacti, you will leave your bike in town and drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour includes a limited amount of walking and approximately 2 1/2 hours of moderate to strenuous cycling that covers 12 miles. The terrain is mostly flat with occasional inclines. An escort vehicle will accompany the tour. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. Participants should be in good physical condition. The cruise line and the operator reserve the right to deny participation to any guests they deem the tour will be unsuitable for. Light-weight clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; and sunscreen are recommended. Flat, close-toed shoes are mandatory. There is a minimum height requirement to participate of 54”. Wildlife sightings, while common, are not guaranteed.
