Immerse yourself in the beauty and history of Langkawi by visiting an unusual rice museum, soaring over the rainforest in a cable car, and stopping at one of the most pristine beaches.
Depart from the pier and before long you will pass numerous paddy fields, where buffalo may be cooling off in the muddy water. The paddies are an appropriate introduction to your first stop at the Rice Garden, an enlightening museum with exhibits demonstrating the vital role rice plays throughout Malaysia.
Strolling about the museum, you will be immersed in the history of the rice industry. There are displays devoted to rice planting, a tiered rooftop rice garden, and a traditional rice village. You may also see tools once used in the cultivation and harvesting of rice.
Next, you will drive to the foothills of Mount Machincang and ride skyward in a cable car gondola. The views of the surrounding rainforest and sea are spectacular. If it’s a clear day, you may even catch sight of the islands off southern Thailand. Following the ride, you will have some free time to shop in the Oriental Village located at the cable car’s base.
Continuing on, you will drive to Burau Bay Beach for photos. Although the beach is public, it’s not usually crowded because of its relative seclusion. It’s hard to take a bad picture in this pristine environment. Following this stop, you will return to the pier.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 1-hour of moderate walking/standing plus any additional walking at the guests’ discretion during free time. There are numerous steps to negotiate at the cable car station. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The order of the sites viewed or visited may vary.
