Board a small Zodiac boat and cruise through a protected marine reserve to snorkel in the crystal-clear waters and then relax on one of Guadeloupe’s stunning beaches.
Depart from the pier and drive across the narrow strait of Rivière Salée that leads to Basse-Terre, the westernmost island of butterfly-shaped Guadeloupe. Upon arriving in the port of Sainte Rose, you will board a small Zodiac boat and with yourself or a fellow guest driving the boat, motor into the Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin Nature Reserve, an expansive bay protected by an immense coral reef.
After cruising past the mangroves that line the shore, which is part of the Guadeloupe National Park, you will cruise to the reef for a snorkeling expedition. There is no telling what you will see, but you can expect it to be spectacular, as the reef is home to countless species of fish, sponges, and crustaceans. You may spot bright colored parrotfish, grouper, starfish, seahorses and even sea turtles gracefully swimming through the crystalline waters. Snorkeling offers an up-close look at this underwater world that you simply wouldn’t have otherwise.
Afterwards, you will cruise to nearby Ilet Blanc, meaning White Island, so named for its sugary sand. The waters are typically calm because they are also protected by the coral reef. During your time here, you might wander about the wide beach or simply sit back and enjoy a refreshing rum punch. In time, you will cruise back to Sainte Rose pier where your transportation awaits to drive you back to the cruise ship pier.
Please note: This tour includes limited walking, mainly at the guests’ discretion. There will be sandy surfaces to negotiate at Ilet Blanc. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. Participants should be able to enter and exit the zodiac with limited assistance. Those who wish to snorkel should be good swimmers. A cover-up worn over swimwear; sun cap; sunglasses; sunscreen; insect repellant; a towel and a bottle of water from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes or aqua socks are recommended. Snorkeling equipment is provided. Guests taking part in any water activities do so at their own risk and responsibility. Minimum age to participate is 4 years old and children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult parent or guardian.
