Cruise from the pier in a Zodiac motorboat and head for a protected marine reserve, where you will snorkel along a huge coral reef and then relax on a nearby island.
Depart directly from the pier in a Zodiac boat and begin cruising through the narrow Rivière Salée or Salt River, an arm of the sea that separates the main islands that comprise butterfly-shaped Guadeloupe. During the next hour, you will follow the shoreline of beautiful Basse-Terre, enjoying a wonderful perspective of the island from the sea.
Your destination is Grand Cul-de-Sac Marine Nature Reserve, an expansive bay protected by an immense coral reef that is a UNESCO World Biological Reserve. Here, accompanied by a marine biologist and guide instructor, you will embark on a snorkeling expedition. There is no telling what you will see, but you can expect it to be spectacular, as the reef is home to countless species of fish, sponges, and crustaceans.
You may spot bright colored parrotfish, grouper, starfish, seahorses and even sea turtles gracefully swimming through the crystalline waters. Moray eels are another species that live in the reef although they can be difficult to see as they often hide in the crevices of the coral. Snorkeling offers an up-close look at this underwater world that you simply wouldn’t have otherwise.
Afterwards, you will cruise to one of the idyllic islands nearby and enjoy a complimentary drink and some free time at the beach. You might swim, meander along the shore, or simply relax in the shade. After approximately fifty minutes, you’ll re-board your zodiac and enjoy a scenic cruise back to the pier.
Please note: This tour includes limited walking, mainly at the guests’ discretion. There will be sandy surfaces to negotiate at the island. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with mobility concerns. Participants should be able to enter and exit the zodiac with limited assistance. Those who wish to snorkel should be good swimmers. A cover-up worn over swimwear; sun cap; sunglasses; sunscreen; insect repellant; a towel and a bottle of water from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes or aqua socks are recommended. Snorkeling equipment is provided. Guests taking part in any water activities do so at their own risk and responsibility. Minimum age to participate is 4 years old and children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult parent or guardian.
