Discover the charms of Marseille on this pleasant half day tour.
Meeting your coach at the pier, you will set-off on a scenic drive to Marseille, traveling via the Cornich J.F. Kennedy which runs alongside the natural coast of France. En route, you will be treated to lovely views of offshore islands, dominated by the Marseille Veyre massif. Your first stop will be at the Old Harbor or Le Vieux Port where you will have a brief photo stop before continuing on to the Pharo Park for a second photo stop. From here, you will drive along the promenade de la plage, a new extension of the Corniche which skirts the immense Prado beaches, as you make your way to the Notre Dame de la Garde, a Basilica that was built in the mid 19th century during the Romano-Byzantine era. The Basilica features a huge gold statue of the Virgin and within the crypt you will find the Mater Dolorosa, a marble carving by Carpeaux. Your visit here also affords you a spectacular view of Marseille, and if you wish, you may choose to climb the 40 steps that will give you a breathtaking 360° panoramic view of Marseille and the surrounding cities.
Following your visit to the Basilica, you will have approximately 1 hour of leisure time to explore the shopping streets near the Old Harbor, such as the Rue Paradis, Rue de Rome and Rue St. Féréol among others, before it's time to return to the ship.
Please note: This tour includes approximately 1 1/2 hours of moderate walking, at times over uneven and cobblestone surfaces, plus any additional walking at the guests' discretion during free time. This tour is not recommended for wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Weather appropriate clothing, a hat and flat, comfortable walking shoes are suggested. The order of the sights viewed or visited may vary.
