Travel to the fascinating Roman fortified city of Lugo and immerse yourself in its more than two thousand years of history.
It's a drive of just over one hour from the pier in La Coruna to Lugo, located on the northwest end of the Iberian Peninsula and magnificently situated on a smooth promontory that overlooks the Miño River. Arriving in the city, you'll first enjoy a short panoramic drive around its impressive Roman wall, which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Wall, which is the only Roman wall in the world to have kept its entire perimeter intact, is over one mile in length and features eighty-five imposing towers.
Then, leaving your coach behind, you will commence a comprehensive guided walking tour of just over two hours. Part of your walking tour takes you along the pedestrian path that is atop the Wall, and offers a wonderful view of the old quarter. Your walk also has you passing by important Roman heritage sites, such as the archeological remains sheltered in the House of the Mosaics, the Provincial Museum, the Porta Miñá Museum, the Roman Spa and the Chapel of Santa Eulalia de Bóveda and the Cathedral, where the Holy Eucharist can be contemplated day and night.
Following your walking tour, you will be treated to a leisurely lunch consisting of local favorites before rejoining your coach for the drive back to the pier in La Coruna.
Please note: This tour includes over 2-hours of moderate walking, at times over uneven surfaces and there are some steps to negotiate. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and may not be considered suitable for those with mobility concerns who are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Weather appropriate clothing (conservative dress is requested when visiting religious sites and sacred monuments); sun cap; sunglasses; and flat, comfortable walking shoes. On Sunday calls, there will only be exterior commentary at the Cathedral; however, guests may enter independently.
