Drive for approximately an hour and a half via air-conditioned motor coach to the oldest section of Verona. Upon arrival, visit Verona's famous Roman amphitheatre, built in 30 AD and once the site of gladiatorial combats. The vast amphitheatre was once large enough to hold the population of ancient Verona.
Continue to Piazza Erbe, the center of Verona's commercial life since the Roman Empire. Here, view the Venetian Lion statue and Palazzo Maffei, a Baroque structure now home to elegant shops and apartments. At nearby Piazza dei Signori, admire a 19th-century statue of Dante, Palazzo della Ragione and the Renaissance Loggia del Consiglio, or council chamber.
Next, visit Casa di Giulietta, the home believed to belong to Juliet Capulet. Visit the courtyard and Juliet's balcony, as well as a bronze Juliet statue. Many imagine it was here Romeo and Juliet, two of the most famous lovers in literature, began their tragic tale.
Departing Casa di Giulietta, enjoy time at leisure to browse through some of Verona's elegant boutiques and enjoy lunch independently in the beautiful city. Then, rejoin your motor coach and return to Venice and your ship.
