This amazing tour takes you to the Postojna Cave system, the largest known cave system in Slovenia. What sets the Postojna cave apart from others in the world is its diversity of shapes, stalactite and stalagmite formations, expansive cave areas and water characteristics. Especially noteworthy is the cave's easy accessibility to visitors. Considered a horizontal cave, the greatest majority of the cave is able to be viewed from well-tended pathways. After an awesome 90-minute visit at this spectacular cave, you will rejoin your coach for the short drive to Predjama Castle.
Perched high atop a cliff and only accessible from one side, this stunning castle truly commands the surrounding countryside. A magnificent edifice literally built into the enormous exposed mouth of a vast underground cave system, Predjama Castle is one of the most unique and picturesque castles to be found anywhere and has often been referred to as a masterpiece of medieval ingenuity, courage, cunning and defiance. While today's castle clearly dates from the Renaissance era and the date of its construction is shown by the coat-of-arms of its owners, the Kobenzl family, as 1583, the castle does conceal an older heart. This interior cave castle was an impregnable refuge and historical sources have shown the castle dates back to the 13th century and perhaps even earlier. Enjoy a photo stop and brief interior visit at this renowned residence of famous knights and noblemen that was at times also notorious for being the hide-out of medieval bandits.
Following your time at the castle, you'll return to the pier where your tour concludes.
