Travel through Kruger National Park on early-morning and late-afternoon game drives when the animals are most active, during which you may spot the Big Five – lions, leopards, elephants, rhinoceroses and African buffaloes – and an abundance of other animals in their natural habitats. The unique flora that flourishes in the park will also be extraordinarily memorable. Between adventures in the bush, you will spend leisure time relaxing in the most unusual accommodations imaginable – a luxury train that is permanently situated on a bridge that spans the Selati River.
Once you disembark the cruise ship in Durban, a local representative will accompany you on the transfer to the King Shaka International Airport for the chartered flight to Skukuza Airport.
Upon landing at Skukuza Airport, you will transfer to Kruger Shalati – The Train on the Bridge, where you will spend two evenings. This one-of-a- kind luxury accommodation is an actual train that has been re-envisioned and permanently stationed on the Selati Bridge in Kruger National Park. It sits on the exact spot where trains were positioned overnight in the 1920s, when visitors were first allowed in the park.
Once you check in at Kruger Shalati, you will enjoy lunch and an afternoon tea.
A game drive follows, during which you will look for animals such as The Big Five – lions, leopards, elephants, rhinoceroses and African buffaloes – and the Little Five – buffalo weavers, elephant shrews, leopard tortoises, ant lions and rhino beetles. Birders will be impressed by the diversity of avian species such as the Big Six – ground hornbills, kori bustards, lappet-faced vultures, martial eagles, Pel’s fishing owls and saddle-bill storks.
After returning to the lodge, you will enjoy dinner at the Bridge House Restaurant.
Overnight at Kruger Shalati – The Train on the Bridge.
After an early-morning wake-up call, you will be served tea or coffee and biscuits prior to your game drive in the park’s southern region.
Bounded by the Crocodile River in the south and the Sabie River in the north, this region is also host to the jagged ridge of the Lebombo Mountains along the border with Mozambique and the highest point in the park, Khandzalive. The valleys are home to trees rarely found in other parts of the Kruger, such as the Cape chestnut, coral tree and lavender fever-berry.
On the whole, there is purportedly more wildlife in the southern part of the park. While on the game drive, enjoy the spectacular scenery as you look for animals such as the Big Five.
Breakfast will be served back on The Train on the Bridge, followed with some leisure time to relax in your carriage room or perhaps swim in the overhanging pool. You may also take a guided walk or a helicopter ride at an additional charge.
