OVERLAND: HIMALAYAN KINDGOM OF NEPAL

$4,299.00/person

Explore the key attractions in and around Nepal’s capital of Kathmandu, many of them World Heritage Sites, including temples, royal cities and other architectural treasures.

Special Note: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

Day 1 – May 4, 2024

After clearing immigration and Customs, you will transfer to the airport and fly to Mumbai. Lunch is served aloft.

Upon arriving, you will be assisted for a connecting flight to Kathmandu.

In Kathmandu, you will be assisted with visa issuance and baggage collection.

NOTE: Please have on hand 1 passport sized photo for the Nepal Visa - Your tour manager will collect this from you in flight.

Home to eight of the world’s 10 tallest peaks, the tiny kingdom of Nepal is ringed by the Himalayas. It is a land of contrasts, harboring a wealth of Buddhist and Hindu art and architecture. Nepal’s colorful capital city Kathmandu reflects 2,000 years of peaceful co-existence and exudes a unique blend of Hinduism and Buddhism, which is distinctly Nepalese in character.

Nepal has eight World Heritage sites and has won two Heritage Awards, one for the city of Bhaktapur and the other for the Dwarika’s Hotel, where you will spend the evening. Dinner is included.

Described as a “living, breathing museum, displaying Nepal’s best craftsmanship from the 13th century,” the hotel rooms and public areas at Dwarika’s Hotel reflect medieval architectural traditions. Every brick is handmade, every piece of wood original and centuries old.

Day 2 – May 5, 2024

Early in the morning, you will transfer to the airport for a flight-seeing excursion (weather permitting), soaring over glacier-clad, cloud-shrouded peaks and other landscapes around Mount Everest. Afterwards, you will return to the hotel for breakfast.

Following breakfast, you will have some time at leisure and then before noon you will drive to the Patan Museum Café for lunch. After lunch you will visit Patan, one of three royal cities in the valley. Commissioned by India’s great emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century, this World Heritage Site within four stupas is known as the City of Fine Arts.

The temples around the main square are impressive as is the Patan Museum, which is housed within a picturesque palace setting. In an international campaign by UNESCO for safeguarding monuments in Kathmandu Valley, the Austrian government joined hands with Nepal to restore and preserve Patan.

Newari architectural style blossomed in the form of temples, palaces, residences and squares between the 12th and 18th centuries, representing a timelessness in Nepalese architecture and its definitive characteristics, often guided by religious and socio-cultural norms.

You will enjoy a cup of tea in a 150-year-old restored Newari home. Its ground level is for daily activities and storage, while the floors above contain living spaces and bedrooms. The top floor serves as the family shrine and cooking and dining area.

Next, you will see Patan’s Living Goddess, who typically acknowledges greetings of devotees from the balcony of her temple residence. Known as kumaris, Nepal’s living goddesses live in seclusion and rarely speak in public.

After a private audience with the goddess it’s on to the Singing Bowl workshops. According to the oral traditions, singing bowls were brought to Nepal from India in the 8th century along with Buddha’s teachings. The Nepalese were expert bronze makers which allowed them to perfect these bowls which are commonly used as a tool for meditation. The beautiful rich tones the bowls produce are thought to help achieve a state of deep relaxation.

There’s time for individual exploration before departing for Durbar Marg, Kathmandu’s main avenue. Enjoy drinks and dinner at a local favorite “Sam’s One Tree Café”.

After dinner return to the hotel for the evening.

Day 3 - May 6, 2024

After breakfast, you will drive to the World Heritage city of Bhadgaon, also known as Bhaktapur. Founded in the 9th century, Bhaktapur, also known as the City of Devotees, is revered for its medieval art and architecture. As you meander around Durbar Square, you will see the 55 Window Palace and Nyatapola temple, considered to be the finest example of Pagoda-style architecture.

Following lunch at Kathmandu’s popular Chez Caroline Café, you will return to the hotel.

Later, you will visit the great Stupa at Bodhnath, one of the largest of its kind in the world. Constructed in the 14th century, the stupa is built on an octagonal base, inset with prayer wheels. Bodhnath is also a center of the Tibetan community in Nepal, where you will visit a monastery and interact with a senior monk. A visit is also made to the Thangka Painting Studio, which renowned artist Lok Chitrakar founded. The sacred art form of Thangkas is a visual interpretation of Buddhist and Hindu philosophies that date from before the 7th century C.E.

You will then visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pashupatinath, one of the holiest Hindu temples and a major pilgrimage site dedicated to the god Shiva. Situated within a natural setting on the bank of the sacred Bagmati River, the temple features a pagoda style, a gilded roof and a richly carved silver door.

After watching the Aarti prayer offering ceremony at the temple, you will return to the hotel to spend the evening.

Dinner is on your own at leisure this evening.

Day 4 - May 7, 2024

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and the morning is at leisure.

OVRLND:NEW ZEALAND'S SOUTHERN GRANDEUR

$1,299.00/person

Discover the South Island’s immense natural beauty and historic landmarks by driving through unspoiled parkland, exploring gold-rush towns, cruising to Walter Peak and even visiting a glow worm cave.

DAY 1

Disembark the in ship in Dunedin and meet your guide. Dunedin, the South Island’s second largest city, was settled by a Scottish contingent and as such, the city proudly celebrates its Scottish heritage, fondly being referred to as the Edinburgh of the South. The city has a large number of fine Edwardian stone buildings, including the stunning Railway Station and is also blessed with a generous green belt and beautiful harbor which adds to the city’s appeal. Your tour begins with a drive through this historic and scenic town.

Continuing on from Dunedin, travel through the countryside and past a string of beautiful little towns.

From jaw dropping views and quaint villages to something to tantalize the taste buds, there is just enough time to squeeze in a wine tasting and lunch at one of the local wineries. The Central Otago region has been rated amongst the top three in the world for Pinot Noir as well as being lauded for its Pinot Gris, Riesling and Chardonnay varieties.

Next you will visit Arrowtown which is a living historic settlement with many stories to tell. Spend some time in the excellent museum or wandering the tree-lined streets filled with restored cottages and explore gold mining sites.

Leaving Arrowtown, we drive the scenic back road into Queenstown where you may have some free time to explore the town.

In the evening, you will get a taste of just what makes Queenstown so special as you board the TSS Earnslaw, a 112 year-old steamship. Cruise to the Walter Peak Station on the opposite side of the lake to one of New Zealand’s most famous high-country sheep stations. The group will dine on a gourmet barbecue dinner in the original homestead and get a taste of farm life as you watch sheep shearers and sheep dogs in action. Shopping is also possible at Walter Peak. Items available may include wool products and possum/merino blended clothing such as gloves, hats and scarves.

The Earnslaw, fondly dubbed ‘The Lady of the Lake’ will then return you to town for the night.

Overnight in Queenstown, a year-round resort town on the shores of Lake Wakatipu fringed by majestic mountain ranges.

DAY 2

After breakfast depart for Te Anau following the scenic east side of Lake Whakatipu and passing through the small rural, settlements of Kingston, Garston, Athol, and Mossburn.

NOTE: Inside the caves the temperature is a fairly constant 8 - 12º Celsius, so bring a warm sweater or fleece jacket. At the entrance to the caves there is a large rock overhang and bending is required to pass this section.

There are steps and often the walkways are wet, so care is required in the subdued light. For this reason, this tour is not suitable for guests who utilize a wheelchair or for those with walking difficulties.

Photography and video filming are not permitted inside the cave.

Rated amongst the most spectacular drives in the world, the coach trip from Te Anau to Milford Sound will give you a real appreciation of the drama and sheer size of the 1.2 million-hectare Fiordland National Park.

Equally as inspiring is the manmade wonder of The Homer tunnel through which the group will travel. Forging through sheer rock with a gradient of 1 in 10, the project was started in 1935 by five men using only picks and wheelbarrows. Due to the extreme working conditions, avalanches and the intervention of World War 2, the job wasn’t finally finished until 1954.

Finally, the group arrives in Milford Sound and will be whisked by ferry back to the awaiting ship. Guests will re-board the ship via the tender platform.

OVERLAND: HANOI EXPERIENCE

$499.00/person

Hanoi, Vietnam's small, elegant capital, lies on the banks of the Red River and offers a wealth of historical and spiritual sights to explore. Founded in 1010, modern-day Hanoi is a city of contrasts, with European-looking gardens, compact neighborhoods of narrow "tube- houses" and French-inspired architecture - all collaborating to give Hanoi a noticeable charm. On this overnight excursion enjoy ample time to discover this amazing city and recognize its political and historical importance.

Day 1:

Departing the port at Halong Bay, drive through the peaceful countryside (approximately 2.5 hours + comfort stop) to the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi. Catch glimpses of everyday rural life: seemingly endless rice fields dotted with colorful billboard advertisements, small villages bustling with activity, and farmers in cone-shaped hats.

Visit the Tran Quoc Pagoda which is located next to Wets Lake. This Pagoda is considered to be a cultural symbol of Vietnamese Buddhism partly because it is the oldest pagoda and is situated in the center of the capital of Vietnam but more importantly, unlike other ordinary pagodas, Tran Quoc Pagoda was built in a very intricate way. Behind the worshipping shrine is the Buddhist trinity followed by corridors, ten shrines and the belfry. Inside the pagoda, there are many valuable statues, such as the red lac statue which is trimmed with gold.

Next, visit the graceful Temple of Literature, built in 1070 to honor the Chinese philosopher Confucius. Surrounded by serene gardens, the temple is an excellent and well-preserved example of traditional Vietnamese architecture. Continuing on from the Temple of Literature, it's an interesting journey through the city's colorful side streets, glimpsing everyday life in Hanoi.

In Hanoi, transfer to the old quarters. Once known as the ancient merchants' quarter, you will have some time to explore the maze of narrow streets and back lanes, lined with colorful stalls and street vendors.

Drive to dinner at a local restaurant. Drive past the Hoan Kiem Lake where you will see a tiny island in the middle of the lake on which is perched the Ngoc Son temple dedicated to Tran Hung Dao, a hero who fought against the Mongolian troops in the 13th century. OVERLAND:KHMER KALEIDOSCOPE & ANGKOR WAT

$2,499.00/person

This incredible journey invites guests to reflect on the past as they experience the present opportunities and beauty of today. Begin with a visit to the sobering Tuol Sleng Museum in Phnom Penh, a sobering reminder of the brutal tragedy brought about by the temporary rule of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge in the 1970s. Regroup in the Russian Market to experience the present resilience and beauty of the local culture. Take in the traditional design of The Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, built upon the site of the Banteay Kev, a citadel built in 1813. Then, trek into the ancient with a visit to the wondrous Angkor Wat for an unforgettable experience.

DAY 1

Disembark the ship in Bangkok, Thailand and transfer by coach to the Bangkok Airport for a flight to Phnom Penh.

Upon arrival in Phnom Penh you will be met and assisted with obtaining a Cambodian Entry Visa. Once this has been issued, proceed to your hotel for check-in. Dinner is on your own.

Day 2

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before setting out. This morning visit Tuol Sleng Museum, originally a local high school which was taken over in 1975 by the Khmer Rouge and converted into “Security Prison 21” (S - 21). During the three years of Khmer Rouge brutality the prison became synonymous with terror. Today the prison has reopened as a museum and offers a grim reminder of the excesses of the Khmer Rouge.

After you have had time to absorb the tragic events, your guide will return you to hotel via a Russian Market to lighten your spirits as you browse the various goods on offer, re-assured that despite the country’s dark history, the good people of Cambodia have persevered.

Named thanks to its popularity with visitors from the former USSR in the 1980s, the Russian Market is probably the city's best source of objects d'art and craft items.

Your guide will lead you around the market and be on hand to explain some of the more curious items for sale, including wooden and stone carvings, various ritual objects, silverware, and old Indochinese notes and coins.

Thirty minutes outside of Phnom Penh to the somber 'Killing Fields' of the Khmer Rouge and the mass graves that tells the dark story of Cambodia’s disturbing past.

After lunch at a local restaurant you will visit The Royal Palace. This structure was constructed earlier this century on the site of the Banteay Kev, a citadel built in 1813. Keen-eyed travelers may spot the design is strongly influenced by The Royal Palace in Bangkok.

Together with your guide, venture inside the Palace's Silver Pagoda and its surrounding compound (the only section open to visitors). The Silver Pagoda, also known as Wat Preah Keo, was given its name because of over 5,000 silver tiles (weighing 1kg each) that cover the floor.

Continue your exploration of Phnom Penh at the National Museum of Khmer Art and Archaeology, otherwise known as 'Musée des Beaux-Arts' or 'Musée Albert Sarraut'. This museum is considered to be one of the finest museums of classical Cambodian art.

This evening enjoy dinner at Friends’ Restaurant and then a cultural show at the National Museum.

DAY 3

After breakfast and checking out, transfer to the Phnom Penh International Airport for a flight to Siem Reap.

On arrival in Siem Reap you will be met and taken to the Angkor Site to collect your temple passes which are required for touring. Once these have been issued, transfer to your hotel for check-in and a light lunch.

After lunch, venture to the Angkor Wat Temple Complex. You will have approximately 2 hours to explore its archaeological treasures with your guide before returning to your hotel.

Your guide will point out the best spots for taking photos of this massive temple complex as you walk amidst the moss-peppered cobbled pathways, gaze up at the intricately carved tower tops and perhaps climb the steep and narrow temple steps that lead to wide courtyards. Lose yourself in contemplation as you catch the rays of the sun dancing off the bas relief carvings at sunset, the chatter of monkeys reverberating off the temple walls.

This evening dinner is on own.

Day 4

After an early breakfast, check out and transfer to the Siem Reap Airport for a flight to Singapore.

Upon arrival into Singapore you will be met and taken to the port where you will re-board the ship.

OVERLAND: TIGERS AND THE PINK CITY

$4,699.00/person

Gain an extraordinary perspective of the gorgeous Pink City of Jaipur through its architectural highlights and observe iconic wildlife such as Bengal tigers on game drives in a national park.

Special Note: Guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC), CPAP breathing machines or scooters should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

Day 1 — May 4, 2024

After disembarking the ship in Cochin and attending to immigration and customs formalities, you will visit some of the city highlights before proceeding to the airport.

There, you will receive a box lunch, pass through security and then fly to Jaipur via Bangalore, arriving in the late afternoon. Jaipur is the capital of the desert-like state of Rajasthan, a land rich in legends of romance, chivalry, sacrifice and heroic deeds.

You will spend the evening and dine at the Taj Rambagh Palace, the former residence of the Prime Minister. Its graceful architecture is uniquely Rajput, with cupolas, minarets and arched doorways. Open-air verandahs spill out onto lovely grounds where peacocks strut.

Day 2 — May 5, 2024

Following breakfast, explore the Pink City, where an enduring charisma of the past blends with the throbbing vitality of today. The scholar and astronomer Jai Singh founded Jaipur centuries ago, and it is considered India’s first planned city. It is often called the Pink City for the predominant color of its buildings.

Among the highlights is Amber Fort, former seat of the Rajput rulers of Jaipur. There, you may wander through the exquisite palaces and visit Shiladevi temple, the private temple of the royal family. Its marble carvings and silver door are spectacular.

Continuing to old Jaipur, you will visit the Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds, a fine example of Rajput artistry. It is constructed of red and pink sandstone, beautifully outlined with white borders and motifs painted with quick lime.

You will then head toward the City Palace, a sprawling structure surrounded by a high wall. The royal family lives in a portion of the palace. Other areas have been converted into museums displaying textiles, costumes, paintings and carpets.

Across from the palace, you will find the open-air royal observatory Jantar Mantar, an esteemed World Heritage site. Jai Singh ordered its construction in the 18th century. It contains the world’s largest stone sundial, among other astronomical instruments.

Return to the hotel for a late lunch after which you will have a 3.5 hour drive through the countryside to the famous tiger sanctuary at Ranthambore. Your stay here is at Sher Bagh Tented Camp.

Dinner and overnight at your Hotel.

Day 3 – May 6, 2024

Coffee, tea and rolls are served at dawn before proceeding on a drive through the park in a Jeep or canter safari vehicle with expert naturalists. They will point out and describe the great diversity of birds, mammals and major predators.

The deep gorges of Ranthambore serve as hideouts for animals such as leopards, tigers and sloth bears. The forest also provides a natural habitat for spotted deer and sambar, the largest Asiatic deer. Woodland, ground and water birds are plentiful, including red junglefowl. Although Ranthambore was once a hunting ground for Bengal tigers, it has become a research and conservation area for these magnificent animals, especially in the last decade or so.

The 10th-century Ranthambore Fort that overlooks the reserve is so historically important that UNESCO deemed it a World Heritage site. You may notice various animals resting on its ancient ramparts.

Return to the resort for breakfast and a morning at leisure.

In the afternoon, you may choose to visit Dastkar, an extraordinary center for crafts, the majority of them created by women as their sole means of income. The bazaar at Dastkar helps the local villagers become self-reliant, as the craftspeople sell their products independent of a commercial middleman. You will view them creating a huge variety of traditional items by hand.

Later in the afternoon, you will enjoy a second game drive, exploring yet another area of the national park with a naturalist guide.

Dinner follows at the Sujan Sher Bagh, where you will spend the evening.

Day 4 – May 7, 2024

Coffee, tea and rolls are served at dawn before returning to the forest for a final game run.

Enjoy breakfast and lunch at your resort before driving to the Jaipur airport for a flight to Mumbai.

Here you will be met and transferred to the pier to re-board the ship.

OVRLND:TAJ MAHAL:THE ETERNAL MASTERPIECE

$4,199.00/person

One of the best-known structures in the world, Agra’s fabled Taj Mahal will awe your senses and forever capture your heart. Considered to be the finest example of Mughal architecture, the Taj Mahal is a glistening mass of white marble and semi-precious stones set amid impeccably landscaped grounds. This program includes the opportunity to visit three UNESCO world heritage sites: the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and the ancient city of Fatehpur Sikri; all of which are legacies from Mughal times.

Special Note: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

DAY 1

After disembarking the ship in Cochin, transfer to the airport for a flight to Delhi via a brief tour of Fort Cochin (including the Church and Chinese fishing nets). Lunch boxes will be provided en route.

Upon arrival at the Cochin airport, you will receive boarding passes and proceed through security. Your bags will be transported to the airport in a separate truck for an advance check-in.

On arrival in Delhi, transfer to your hotel for check-in.

Dinner is included at the hotel.

DAY 2

After breakfast, check out and drive to Agra via the new Yamuna Expressway with vistas of India’s vast rural farming countryside.

Agra, the city of Taj Mahal was one of the grand cities of South Asia. With the arrival of the Mughals in 1526 led by Babur, Agra entered a completely new era during the reign of emperors Akbar, Jehangir and Shah Jahan. Akbar made it a great center for learning, art, commerce and culture. Its cosmopolitan bazaars and its strategic location on the river Jamuna, was altogether a worthier setting for the focus of an empire.

Upon arrival in Agra check-in to your hotel.

After lunch and some time at leisure, proceed to World Heritage Agra Fort, credited to Emperor Akbar, India’s great visionary. Astonishing palaces, mosques, and audience halls contained within its massive walls of red sandstone are embellished by an artistic fusion of Hindu and Islamic traditions.

Next proceed to visit the Taj Mahal at sunset. With its incredible lacy white grandeur, it is perhaps the most perfect architectural monument in the world. In memory of his wife, the great Mughal emperor Shah Jehan planned this most extravagant and incomparable monument built for love. Although amazingly graceful from any angle, it is the close-up detail, which is really astounding. At sunset, the monument appears to change its hue, tinted by the glow of the setting sun.

Back at your hotel, and after some time to freshen up, enjoy the classical dance form of Kathak in the ballroom. Dinner will follow.

Day 3

This morning you will discover the Taj Mahal at dawn. Coffee, tea, juices and rolls are served in the lobby prior to your departure.

Return to your hotel for breakfast after which you will have some optional activities to choose from.

Morning options

•Drive an hour into the Indian countryside to visit Fatehpur Sikri, the red sandstone former capital of the Mughal empire. The city lived between A.D. 1571 up to 1585 and then became a ghost town, abandoned, possibly due to complexities with the water systems.

•Visit the Tomb of Itmad-Ud-Daulah in the old city, the first Mughal structure pioneering the extensive use of `pietra dura’, the inlay work of marble, so characteristic of the Taj Mahal. This mausoleum is small and squat when compared to the Taj, but the more human scale has its own attraction, and the skillfully patterned surface of the tomb is exquisite.

•At the hotel, Agra’s leading astrologer will be available for consultation. Appointments for an analysis of your personal horoscope can be made at the Oceania Cruises Hospitality desk

•Take a look at some of Agra’s famous shopping …. Kohinoor, erstwhile jewelers to the Mughal court, featured in National Geographic. Old emerald necklaces, enamel, jewelry, silver, pocket watches in Gold and silver, textiles and embroidery form part of their private collection. The Marble Inlay factories steeped in this decorative art culture are also a specialty of Agra.

Return to your hotel for lunch.

This program is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or for those who utilize a wheelchair or scooter.

DAY 1 – March 9, 2024

After disembarking the cruise ship, you will transfer to the Denpasar Airport and fly to Yogyakarta City in Java. Following lunch, you will drive to the 9th-century Prambanan temple compounds, a collection of 240 temples so magnificent that UNESCO declared them a World Heritage site. They are dedicated to the Trimurti, a concept of Hinduism whereby Brahma is the Creator, Vishnu is the Preserver and Shiva is the Destroyer.

Later in the afternoon, you will check into the Hotel Tentrem (or a similar hotel), where you will enjoy dinner and a relaxing evening.

DAY 2 – March 10, 2024

Setting out well before sunrise, drive to the stunning temple complex at Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist monument. This UNESCO World Heritage site consists of six square terraces topped by three circular ones. Built with more than 2 million stone blocks and adorned with thousands of relief panels and hundreds of Buddha statues, it is exquisite beyond comparison.

Ample time will be dedicated to exploring this incredible Buddhist structure before visiting a Kris maker. Listed by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Intangible Heritage of Humanity, the Kris is an asymmetrical dagger with distinctive blade patterning achieved through alternating laminations of iron. It can take a month to forge a single piece.

Kris have been produced in Indonesia for centuries, but nowhere is the art so embedded in the culture as in Central Java. Kris are used for display, weapons, as talismans with magical powers, accessories for ceremonial dress, indicators of social status and symbols of heroism. Kris-makers do more than forge the weapon, they ritualistically infuse the blade with mystical powers. Consequently, Kris are considered almost alive because they may be vessels of spirits, either good or evil.

After visiting the Kris-Maker, you can relax at the hotel before checking out. You will then board a train at the Yogyakarta station. Dinner will be served during the train ride to Surabaya.

Upon arrival in Surabaya, you will then be transferred directly to the Hotel Majapahit Surabaya (or a similar hotel) for the evening.

DAY 3 – March 11, 2024

While passing the Pasar Pabean market in Old Town, you will surely notice that the merchandise isn’t just Javanese. Many of the vendors are from China, India and Malaysia and their goods appeal to those audiences.

In time, you will pause at Arabic Square, which contains the tomb of Sunan Ampel, the Wali Sanga saint that brought Islam to Indonesia in the 15th century. Arabic Square is now a center for Islamic study and a vibrant for Muslims. While walking about the square, you will pass through the pilgrim’s market and see the centuries-old Ampel mosque.

Afterwards, you will proceed to the port and re-embark the cruise ship.
