Top Ways to Avoid Jet Lag
Whenever I travel, I have to be ready to hit the ground running when I arrive in one of our beautiful port cities before embarking. Even when I travel for pleasure, I love to be able to enjoy my vacation from day one. Here are some ways to avoid jet lag that help me every time I travel.
GET ENOUGH REST THE NIGHT BEFORE
I always make sure I go to bed a little earlier the night before I’ll be traveling to make sure I
don’t start the trip tired.
ARRIVE EARLY AT THE AIRPORT
This one is often overlooked, but I make sure I have enough time to get to the airport with
plenty of time to check in, go to the lounge and relax. This helps avoid unnecessary stress
and sets the tone for my trip.
STAY HYDRATED
Drinking plenty of water and hydrating as much as possible – especially during the flight – is one of the keys to preventing jet lag. Dehydration tends to intensify jet lag, so remember to pack your favorite water bottle.
KEEP MOVING
On long-haul flights, I walk up and down the aisles to keep the blood flowing.
AVOID TOO MUCH CAFFEINE OR ALCOHOL
I limit the amount of coffee and wine I have so that I don’t become dehydrated.
SLEEP EN ROUTE TO YOUR DESTINATION
I always do my best to sleep during the flight – it helps me be functional upon arrival and
get on local time more quickly.

STAY AWAKE ONCE YOU ARRIVE
I make a point to get outside and go for a walk. The fresh air and sunlight is a great jet lag remedy and will help your body re-set to your new time zone. Whatever you do, don’t take anything longer than a brief 20- to 30-minute nap and stay awake until at least an early local bedtime.
VISIT OUR AQUAMAR SPA + VITALITY CENTER
While I might not get a chance to do this every time I travel, there’s nothing like a massage
or invigorating body treatment once you’re on board to help your body adjust. I have friends
who make visiting the spa a travel ritual – what better way to begin your Oceania Cruises voyage?
